Vocabulary Showcase: “Fear”

Welcome to the season of spooks. It is the time of the Halloweenies in English-speaking countries. To help you get in the mood we are exploring synonyms for the word “fear”. Let’s have a look at these words in sentences, but not just any sentences, spooky, freaky Halloweeny sentences!

Angst – “Elen felt the angst rising up insider her chest as she descended the basement steps.”

Anxiety – “The anxiety he felt as he contemplated what waited for him in the hull of the haunted ship was too much for him.”

Concern – “As she looked at the little vampire boy, perhaps she should have been terrified, but she just felt concern for him.”

Dread – “They dreaded the sound it made. They waited for it to click and squelch its way through the darkness toward them.”

The Jitters – “He hated closing up the shop at night. Being alone in the shopping mall always gave him the jitters.”

Uneasiness – “She didn’t know why, but the clown always made her feel uneasy.”

Worry – “Now the fear had lessened, it was replaced with pure worry. Had the others escaped? Would they be safe?”

Panic – “As it approached them in the hallway, Alec panicked, frozen in place.”

Fright – “Lucy put Emma to bed, and sat by her side. She should not be alone after such a fright.”

Terror- “Nothing could describe that terror. The shaking, screaming feeling in his bones as he tried to be silent under the stairs.”

Ooooooh spooky scary creepy things in the dark. I love it!
