Vocabulary Showcase: Synonyms for “strong”

“Strong” is another one of those words we use all the time. It is a little basic (easy/normal/simple) though isn’t it? Let’s have a look at some other words which mean the same thing (synonyms) as “strong” so we can upgrade our English skills!

Powerful – There was a very powerful smell coming from the bathroom this morning.

Muscular – My dog is very muscular, he can lift things heavier than himself.

Well built – I’m very well built so I can carry all the shopping myself.

Strapping – Louise is a strapping young woman, she does not need any help on the farm.

Rugged – My cat Fluffles is rugged, he likes to stay outside in the cold winters.

Mighty – That is one mighty ant, look at it carry that rock!

Brawny – I wish I was brawnier so I could move all my furniture easily.

Buff – He goes to the gym so he gets more buff.

If I was brawnier I think I would lift the sofa with one hand while I used the vacuum cleaner with the other. Just think of how much time that would save me!
